Here's one of the great pieces of Americana that I've had the privilege to sell -
one of the rarest silent one-sheets you'll ever find:
An ORIGINAL 1919 FORD EDUCATIONAL WEEKLY Movie Poster!
Henry Ford created the most innovative company in America at the turn
of the 20th Century, and that fact has been championed for over a century now. What hasn't been championed was Ford's interest in the film industry. Back in the late teens, when this poster was issued, Ford was the largest distributor of motion pictures in the world. That fact is pretty impressive, and is not commonly known today. Little remains that memorializes Ford's large impact in the field of motion pictures. This piece is perhaps the nicest original artifact to have surfaced. This 1-sheet (approximately 28x42 inches) was originally issued to theaters who played the weekly film series. Interestingly, the majority of films Ford released were not about the Ford Motor Company. This poster is a happy, and, extremely rare exception! It features a story on Ford's aviation division and their aircraft motor, which makes this a real tour de force in representing Ford.
The fantastic artwork depicts quintessential American imagery. This more than beautiful poster carries an Artist's mark in the lower right hand corner above the Edwards & Deutsch Litho. Company name (see photo # 4). If anyone knows who it represents please write me. I purchased this historic poster over 25 years ago at a rare poster auction. It was already linen-mounted at the time. I've stored it FLAT between acid-free paper for these decades. It hasn't changed a wink! It's also FLAT as a pancake, even flatter, and so NO CURL! It's had some restoration throughout, especially in the margins and by the folds, but the poster displays beautifully!. I've posted
