George Hurrell was Hollywood's favorite studio photographer back during Hollywood's Golden Age. Hurrell took this remarkable image of the legendary Marlene Dietrich at the height of both of their careers in the 1936. Hurrell is generally accepted as the #1 greatest Hollywood glamour photographer of all time. He lived to understand his importance in the world of glamour photography, and so he decided to offer large sized HIGH QUALITY 23x35 inch lithographs of his best Hollywood images in the early 1980's, about 10 years before he died. Most of the lithographs offered were sold UNSIGNED. He did personally hand-sign a limited quantity of the prints. This is one of those. It's numbered 62 of 250 (see photo #2).
This print was framed and enjoyed by the previous owner for decades. It was hung in a dark environment as to preserve the density of the print, meaning NO FADING! I took it out of the frame when I got it a couple of years ago and had it paper-mounted by the top conservator in the US to flatten it out, as it had "cockled" in the frame because it was not properly secured. Cockling is a conservator's term that means wrinkling or waviness. The paper backing worked like a charm because the litho is now flat as a pancake with no cockling and ready to frame (properly, I hope this time)! Actually, it's now a lot flatter than a pancake. This would make a great addition to any classic Hollywood collection. It would also be a perfect gift for any fan of Marlene Dietrich or George Hurrell.
LINEN-MOUNTING & CONSERVATION PAPER BACKING
is an accepted form of poster preservation by the Library of Congress and every Museum in the country. Except for one or two, every one of the top twenty 0,000.00 and up most expensive selling movie posters were all paper or linen-mounted. A lot of advanced poster buyers request and prefer mounted posters because it makes framing and displaying the posters much easier.

The white you see in the photo beyond that of the lithograph is the white of the Acid-Free paper lining the original poster's margin. You can see how easy it would be to damage the original litho without that extra margin of protection. The backing makes the poster much safer to handle - it GREATLY reduces the risk of damaging the original. Also, all of my backed posters have been stored FLAT so they DO NOT have a curl to them - They're ready for framing and display!
