Original Top Hat Jumbo Card, (RKO, 1935) Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers,
Charles Theatre premiere year showing, December, 1935.
(Central Show Printing Company, Mason, Iowa)
VG+ condition with tear on one side, small paper loss on edges, foxing,
considerable discoloration/staining, some abrasions and minor defects.
Overall, a solid example with still bright colors. See pics for details.
Silk-screened on medium weight chipboard.
The 1935 Charles Theatre, was designed in beautiful Art Moderne style,
including its dramatic multi-colored tile facade other other stylish Moderne
details inside, and still operates today as a movie house, seating 450.
It originally could seat 600 and was first operated by A.H.
Blank a subsidiary of Paramount Pictures Inc.
The screening of Top Hat was one of the premiere short-runs at the new
Charles Theater (newly built in 1935), and received billing with its own
very limited run, silk-screened by Central Show Printing Company in Mason, Iowa.
Central Show Printing (nationally) originated many circus, musical, and theatre
screens and lithographs.
Both the jumbo card size and the limited screen run add to its rarity.
