  • Condition: This original, restored, and linen backed rare movie poster displays a spectacular image with deep, rich colors and fantastic detail of the images. The flaws that exist are generally unobtrusive to the poster. The prior Fold lines on the left below center that are in and around the words "ALL COLORED CAST" are somewhat visible but are not overly obtrusive to the appearance of the poster. The other prior Fold lines are barely visible but only under bright light and very close inspection. There are 4 to 5 faint, small blue smudges along the border from the poster's blue background. And there are a few tiny dots above the "N" in "CRIMSON" and under the word "BAFFLING". There are no pin holes, no tape or tape residue, and no soiling. There is no loss of paper or color. The poster has a low to medium gloss. It is a stunning poster of a NORMAN studios film. Please review the photos carefully.

    This is the Original (1sh) movie poster
    THE CRIMSON SKULL.
    It was used by
    Norman Studios
    to promote this movie when it was released in 1922.   It is not a reprint nor a reproduction.   The movie stars
    Anita Bush, Lawrence  Chenault, Bill Pickett, and Steve Reynolds (the one-legged man).
    It was directed by Richard E. Norman.
    This restored movie poster is Rolled and measures 41.25" x 77.5", normally called a Three Sheet.
    This poster is also linen backed.
    With linen backing, the overall poster plus linen measures 43" x 80.5".  The poster was previously Folded and in two sections.  Most original movie posters pre-1985 are Folded, and this is not considered a flaw or a defect.
    This original movie poster is now graded C8.5, Very Fine to Near Mint.
    Original movie posters are graded as follows from the top down: C10 (Mint), C9 (Near Mint), C8 (Very Fine), C7 (Fine/Very Fine), C6 (Fine or Very Good), C5 (Good to Very Good), etc.  It is difficult to find any pre-1985 original movie posters graded C10 (Mint).  Original movie posters - by generally recognized standards - cannot receive a grade higher than C8.5 after restoration.
    Prior to restoration this poster was graded a C6, Fine.
    The restoration corrected some brittleness, edge and fold wear with separations, crossfold separations, tears from the borders into the background, pinholes in the borders, minor foxing (discoloration of the paper due to aging) where the sections meet, and some paper loss in the folds.
    The poster now displays beautifully and will make a superior addition to any original movie poster collection.  For historians, Norman Studios was among the nation’s first film studio to produce “race films” starring African American characters in positive, non-stereotypical roles. This poster is a legacy to Norman Studios' amazing achievement that continues to this day.
